What We Believe...

Introduction

At Greater Wilmington Church, our beliefs are not merely statements on paper — they shape how we live, worship, love, and serve.

We believe truth is not invented by culture or preference but revealed by God. These convictions come from Scripture and center on the person and work of Jesus Christ. While no statement can capture the fullness of God’s greatness, we joyfully confess the truths that unite us as followers of Christ.

If you are exploring faith, we hope this gives you clarity. If you are looking for a church home, we hope it gives you confidence.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is true, trustworthy, and authoritative in all it teaches. Through Scripture, God reveals His character, His will, and His plan of redemption.

The Bible is not merely an ancient religious text; it is God’s living Word that instructs, corrects, encourages, and transforms us. It is our final authority for faith and practice.

God

We believe there is one true God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is holy, loving, just, merciful, and sovereign over all creation.

God created the world and everything in it. He is both infinitely powerful and personally near. He is worthy of our worship, obedience, and trust.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God — fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed mighty works, and taught with divine authority.

He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, was buried, and rose bodily from the grave. Through His death and resurrection, He accomplished our salvation. He ascended to heaven and will one day return in glory.

Jesus is not merely a teacher or example — He is Lord and Savior.

Salvation

We believe that all people are created in God’s image but are separated from Him because of sin. No one can earn salvation through good works or religious effort.

Salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received by faith in Jesus Christ alone. When a person repents of sin and trusts in Christ, they are forgiven, reconciled to God, and given new life.

This new life is marked by growing love for God and others.

The Church

We believe the Church is the body of Christ — made up of all who trust in Him. The Church exists to glorify God by making disciples, proclaiming the gospel, worshiping together, and serving the world.

The local church is a spiritual family where believers gather for teaching, prayer, fellowship, and encouragement. It is not a building, but a people redeemed by Christ and sent into the world.

The Christian Life

We believe the Christian life is one of ongoing transformation through the power of the Holy Spirit. As followers of Jesus, we seek to grow in holiness, love, humility, and obedience.

Spiritual growth happens through prayer, Scripture, worship, fellowship, and faithful service. While believers are not perfect, we are being shaped into the likeness of Christ.

Our hope is not in our performance, but in God’s sustaining grace.

Closing

We believe doctrine matters because truth matters.
But we also believe love, humility, and grace must mark everything we do.

Our desire is not merely to state these truths, but to live them — reflecting the character of Jesus in how we worship, serve, teach, and love one another.

If you have questions about any of these beliefs, we would be honored to talk with you.
