Isn't it a great feeling to be a part of a community? Belonging is an essential human need. God is an 'us' (Genesis 1:26), and we are made in his image; therefore, we are made to be in community. How different from our self-focused, individualistic culture. We are excited that you are interested in becoming a member of the Greater Wilmington Church community. How does that happen you may ask?
There is a process because we want to make sure there is a shared understanding between us and that we are a good fit for each other..
We are a family of imperfect believers in Christ who are striving to grow in our awareness and implementation of the infinite love and timeless teachings of Christ. We are convinced that only together, with our eyes focused on Jesus, that we can experience stronger faith, greater joy, deeper relationships, and a more fulfilling sense of Godly purpose in our lives. Each member of the Greater Wilmington Church has first and foremost dedicated their lives to following Jesus, repented (repenting) of their sins, and were baptized into Christ (Acts 2:38) as the scripture teachers. This is the first step in placing membership: becoming a member of the body of Christ. If you are not sure what this entails, then we encourage you to study the Bible with someone or talk to one of our elders or ministers. This way we can understand your past experience coming to faith and either extend the right hand of fellowship as a fellow Christian or help you in your journey to becoming a Christian or being restored in your faith.
Once your standing with Christ has been understood and biblical assured, then we can discuss becoming a member. The next step is to share our Belief Statement with you and to discuss it with you. Why? Because we believe that togetherness is based on common beliefs and values, shared understanding among each member regarding those beliefs and values, and a common commitment to shared expectations as set forth by Jesus' teachings. Bottomline, we want everyone to be on the same sheet of music regarding the elementary truths of Jesus and the values of godliness set forth in scripture. Please download our Belief Statement and take some time to digest it; talk with your friend who invited you or, again, with one of our Group Leaders, ministers, or elders about the content. We would be glad to take some time with you to discuss. This way we can be sure we are all rowing in the same direction.
Once all that has happened and you are convinced this the church for you, we would like to extend a warm welcome as a member and invite you to one of our new members classes for further discussion about our church, its missions, leadership and organization, among other things.
